About this Course

This course will help you learn Adobe Photoshop and Adobe After Effects through an interesting and challenging visual project: the process of creating a 3D looking video scene from a still photograph!

This is the structure of the course:

  • The basics of Photoshop - interface, file formats. etc
  • Preparing our photo for After Effects in Photoshop.
  • The basics of After Effects - you get all the basic and all of the important information that you need to create your own animations.
  • Animating in After Effects
  • Modelling slow motion in After Effects
  • Importing animations in one video project
  • Rendering

The course is structured around the workflow of a professional After Effects user. 

Basic knowledge

In this course you get all the information you need.

The only requirements are:

  • After Effects CS5/ CS 5.5/ CS6/CC installed. (You can use a 30-day free trial)
  • Photoshop CS5/ CS 5.5/ CS6/CC installed. (You can use a 30-day free trial)
  • You can use and download all those materials and project files that I used in the course and in the promo video.
What you will learn
  • You will learn the basics of Photoshop and get familiar with the tools you need for this project
  • You will learn all the important parts of Adobe After effects ie.: import, timeline, effects, special layers etc.
  • Than You will learn the animation process step-by-step from a 2D photograph to the finished 3D composition with added slow motion effect
  • You will learn to create a new project from multiple projects

At the end of the course you will understand the workflow of creating 3D effect not only from photos, but logos, icons or info graphics! You can use your knowledge to create stunning animated scenes from wedding photos, or pimp up your family album or your YouTube videos!

The basics of Adobe Photoshop

    Let me explain how this type of project works and how photoshop helps you to reach your goal.

  • The basics of Photoshop - interface  

    In this lesson I will guide you through Photoshop's interface and show you those important settings, panels, and methods that you have to know before we start working.

  • Importing files and important tools  

    Let me introduce those tools that will be your best friends when you are working on this type of projects. (The polygonal lasso tool, clone stamp tool, healing brush tool etc.)

Prepare the image file for After Effects
  • Creating the folder system  

    It is very important to create a logical folder system before you start working. If you find everything what you look for, you can save much more time than you think!

  • Preparing the PSD file for After Effects  

    In this lesson I show you how to prepare the image in Photoshop for the work in After Effects.

The basics of After Effects
  • Settings and interface of After Effects  

    One of the most important thing is the structure of the software. I show you where can you find the settings, panels and windows and how can you control them.

  • Importing files to After Effects  

    In this lecture we will import different file types to After effects (jpg, psd, ai, video- and audio files) We will learn to control them and the most important settings of them.

  • Timeline and keyframes  

    Timeline and keyframes are the basics of animating. In this lesson you will understand how it works by animating your imported files.

  • The effect panel and the effect control panel  

    In this lesson I will show you where you can find the effects, how you can control them. I will also show you the effects, that we will use in our project, and some of those we won't. Effects are your best friends in After Effects so let's meet them and don't be afraid to play with them!

  • Creating solid layers, text layers, adjustment layers and null objects  

    In After Effects there are some special layer formats that can be useful. Let me show you how they work and when they are really useful.

  • 3D in After Effects  

    Using 3D layers in After Effects is one of the most important things in this type of project. In this lecture I will show you how can you create and control 3D layers and cameras.

  • Precomposing  

    Precomposing is a basic function in After Effects. This way you can group assets in timeline in one new composition. It can be useful so I will show you how it works!

Animating - 2D to 3D
  • Importing the prepared image and setting up the 3D space  

    In this lesson we will import the PSD file to After Effects that we prepared in Photoshop. We will set up the image to a 3D animation.

  • Set up the camera  

    Let's create the 3D effect with the camera. Also, we will learn about camera settings.

  • Exporting the project to a video file  

    You have already finished animating your image. Let's render it to a video file. I will show you how you can do it.

Make your animation more cool - modelling slow motion

    With the puppet pin tool you can move the objects part by part. This is a great way to create a slow motion like video effect. In this lecture you will learn about the tool and its setting.

Import your animations in one video project
  • Importing After Effect projects to each other  

    In this lecture I will show you how you can import different projects and video files into one new project. It's a great and simple way to link your projects in one new project file. The advantage is, that all files will be editable.
