Introduction
  • The Challenge & the Structure of this course

The challenge of this course is to make you understand what memory improvement is about, and see for yourself just how simple and handy this skill is!

2. Structural Memory Techniques
  • 2.1. The Memory Palace(LOCI) method

The Loci method, or the Memory Palace technique, is the oldest technique of memory, being invented by the Greek poet Simonidis in the fifth century BC.

Over the centuries, this technique has proven to be incredibly powerful.

As you will see, using this method really can make many aspects of your life much easier.

  • 2.2. The PEG Memory System

The PEG technique is another method used to create a mental structure on which to hang the information you need to learn. In this lesson, you will learn how the peg system works and which are the main peg type method.

3. Encoding Memory Techniques
  • 3.1. The Acronym Memory Technique

It is a very simple to learn and to apply technique that can be used both in study and in different daily activities.

It has two variants: the Acronym Method and the Sentence Method.

Both are very simple, but very efficient memory tools.

  • 3.2. The Sound Alike Technique
  • 3.3. The Major System

The Major System ,also called the Consonant Peg Method, or the Phonetic Mnemonic System,is a very efficient technique used to memorize numbers ,shuffled playing cards, dates, historical facts and other long, abstract sequences of items.

  • 3.4. Dominic System

The Dominic System ,created by the eight time World Memory Champion Dominic O'Brien is a technique for memorizing long sequences of numbers(including binary digits) or playing cards by first converting them into pairs of letters, then associating those letters with people whose names have those initials ,each doing a specific action.

  • 3.5. The Person-Action-Object (P.A.O.) System

PAO system is mainly useful in memory competitions, for memorizing multiple decks of cards or very long numbers.

4. Special Memory Techniques
  • 4.1. The Link Memory Method

The Link method is one of the easiest mnemonic techniques available.

It works by coding information to be remembered into images and then linking these images together.

You use it by making simple associations between items in a list, linking them with a vivid image containing the items.

  • 4.2. Mind Maps

A Mind Map is used to structure, classify, visualize and at times generate ideas for the purpose of organizing information, solving problems and making better decisions.

It essentially pieces together a subject into effective segments or chunks to help aid memory and recall, is a creative and effective tool to put information into your brain and to take information out of your brain, that literally ‘maps out’ your thoughts.

5. Practicing the Techniques
  • 5.1. Everyday Practical Applications

In this lesson you will learn :

    • How to memorize shopping lists or to do lists;
    • How to create a MENTAL CALENDAR for appointments and anniversaries;

Here is the number that we will memorize in this lesson, by using 3 different techniques: the first 20 decimals of the number PI:

    (3.) 14 15 92 65 35 89 79 32 38 46

  • 5.6. Memorize People's Names and Faces

Probably the biggest memory problem is that of remembering the names and faces of the people.

Memory experts have tried various systems and methods to help their memory for names.

All of these systems have certain common steps to follow, steps that we will see in this lesson.

  • 5.7. Let's Memorize a whole Deck Playing Cards!
