Curriculum
Number of Lectures: 46
Total Duration: 08:26:43
Introduction
  • Course Introduction

This lecture provides a brief introduction to the course covering:

    1. Course Objectives
    2. Zindiak
    • Organisation
    • Trainer
    1. The PRINCE2 Agile Manual
    2. The PRINCE2 Agile Practitioner Examination

Introduction to PRINCE2 Agile
  • Introduction to PRINCE2 Agile
  • Scrum

Provides training on scrum according to the scrum guide which is seen as the definitive definition of scrum, covering:

    • Scrum Theory
    • The Scrum Team
    • Scrum Events
    • Scrum Artifacts
    • Artifact Transparency

  • Kanban

Kanban is Japanese: “Kan” means “card” whilst “ban” means “signal”.

The Kanban concept is widely used in “Lean manufacturing”.

This lecture covers the kanban content referred to in the PRINCE2 Agile manual, which is primarily based on the Kanban method (created by David J Anderson).

You'll learn the 6 general practices of the Kanban Method:

    1. Visualize
    2. Limit 'Work in Progress' (WIP)
    3. Manage the flow
    4. Making policies explicit
    5. Implement feedback loops
    6. Improve collaboratively, evolve experimentally

The lecture provides all the information you need on Kanban for the PRINCE2 Agile Practitioner exam.

  • Cumulative Flow Diagrams (CFDs)

It is important that you understand what a CFD is and this may take some time.

This lecture takes you though the CFD in simple steps, to ensure you can read it to see:

    • how much work is in progress
    • what the lead time is

A CFD is about as hard as it gets from the point of view of knowing kanban for PRINCE2 Agile but it is worth the effort when you get there!

  • Kanban Hints

Provides guidance on using Kanban within a PRINCE2 Agile project and an explanation of Little's Law.

  • Lean Startup

Lean Startup is a popular agile book by Eric Ries

Some of the stories inside the book and concepts are very interesting and at times unbelievable but in some respects this represents a sophisticated strain of agile and to many people a great way to work. Although it is a book about start-up companies this is analogous to a project and the parallels are easy to make.

This lecture provides an introduction to Lean Startup and all the information you will need for the PRINCE2 Agile Exam.

Blending PRINCE2 and Agile
  • Recap of PRINCE2

Fundamental to students taking this course and wishing to take the PRINCE2 Agile Practitioner exam is that they are existing PRINCE2 Practitioners. Therefore this session is short providing only a very brief recap of PRINCE2.

  • Blending

Introduces the Layer Cake, which represents the three levels of a project and the important point of the metaphor that both PRINCE2 and agile have their strengths and we need to play to those strengths - but we must blend and weave these together as it will not work as well if they are running in parallel universes.

    This lecture will enable you:

    • to blend and weave PRINCE2 and agile on your projects
    • understand the constituent parts of PRINCE2 Agile
    • understand the 8 guidance points upon which PRINCE2 Agile is based

Fix and Flex
  • The Hexagon

The Hexagon is formed from the 6 aspects of project performance/control identified in PRINCE2:

    • Time
    • Cost
    • Quality
    • Scope
    • Risk
    • Benefits

At the end of this lecture you will understand, which aspects you should fix and which aspects you may flex on a PRINCE2 Agile project.

  • The 5 Targets

The 5 targets represent the rationale behind the hexagon:

    1. Be on time and hit deadlines
    2. Protect the level of quality
    3. Embrace change
    4. Keep teams stable
    5. Accept that the customer doesn't need everything.

This lecture will enable students to understand the rationale behind every target, so that they then understand why the PRINCE2 Agile hexagon is like it is.

  • Balance and Prioritisation

This lecture ensures that you have understood the wider holistic view.

In essence, the PRINCE2 Agile view is: that to be on time and to protect quality and to embrace change, is a much better proposition for the customer than to deliver everything they asked for at the start of the project.

Areas of Particular Focus for PRINCE2 Agile
  • The Agilometer

This lecture will enable students to

    • understand 6 key areas covered by The Agilometer:
    1. Flexibility on what is delivered
    2. Level of collaboration
    3. Ease of communication
    4. Ability to work iteratively and deliver incrementally
    5. Advantageous environmental conditions
    6. Acceptance of Agile
    • use the Agilometer to answer the question “How agile can we be on this project?”

  • Requirements and User Stories

It is quite common for people to use different terms for the same thing (e.g. feature, requirement, user story, function). Not only this but it is quite possible that people using the same word mean different things.

This lecture will ensure you understand the different requirements terminology in sufficient detail to pass the exam.

It should be noted that requirements is one of the five focus areas as PRINCE2 doesn't provide enough detail on this to run in an agile context. It is therefore important to PRINCE2 Agile as many of the failings of current projects relate to badly written requirements and/or user stories.

The lecture will ensure you are able to write useful user stories and prioritise them appropriately.

  • Rich Communication

At the end of this lecture you will understand:

    • what effective communication is
    • what options are available for communicating with stakeholders
    • how to select the most effective means of communication for any given situation

  • Frequent Releases

This lecture will enable you to understand the advantages and disadvantages of frequent releases so that you can selected an appropriate release schedule for you project.

Principles and Behaviours
  • PRINCE2 Principles

At the end of this lecture you will understand:

    • the importance of each of the PRINCE2 principles in an agile context
    • how to apply the PRINCE2 principles to an agile project

  • PRINCE2 Agile behaviours

The five PRINCE2 Agile behaviours have been created to cover all of the various principles, values and attitudes that have come to epitomise agile. Any agile behaviour of note should be covered in some way in one of these and if not they should be covered by one of the seven principles of PRINCE2.

At the end of the lecture you will understand each of the five PRINCE2 Agile behaviours and how to apply them to your projects:

    • Transparency
    • Collaboration
    • Rich Communication
    • Self-organization
    • Exploration
