Basic knowledge
  • If you have a Year 12 level of English in an English speaking country, you already have the most important qualification that is needed
  • Others from non-English speaking locations will need a strong understanding of English at about Upper Intermediate level or better
  • Having a University degree is a big help as it opens more doors, but it is not 100% necessary
  • You will need a sense of adventure, and a strong sense of independence.
  • It will be a great help if you are reasonably computer literate

WHAT DOES AN ESL TEACHER DO?
  • WHAT WILL I BE DOING?  

    In this lesson you will check out just what an English teacher is expected to do when teaching speakers of other languages, from preparing lessons to delivering them.

Lesson 4 WHAT MATERIALS WILL I HAVE AND HOW DO I USE THEM ?
  • Where will I get the resources I need?  

    Whilst most schools will have all the resources you will need to be a successful teacher, you will also need to know how to make a lesson from nothing.

    In this session we will see where to find excellent resources, and how to use them.

    It is nowhere near as difficult as you might think.

DECISION TIME- WHERE WILL I GO?
  • Making a decision on where to begin your overseas teaching career.  

    In this session we look at some of the more popular destinations for ESL teachers, and some of the conditions in each of them.

TEACHING CHILDREN
  • What you can expect when teaching children  

    Teaching children requires a lot of patience, and skills which can be developed over time.

    Kids love to have fun, and love to sing and play games.

    If you know how to harness these skills, you will be a much sought after teacher for kids.

Class-room control and discipline in the class-room
  • How to use an ancient technique to bring control to you class in a fun fashion
